Counseling in Katy, TX: Boost Your Confidence Quickly

Life is stressful, there’s no way around it. It’s a complicated dance, and unfortunately, no one can teach you all the steps, and there’s no rehearsals. It’s challenging enough to navigate through life on a daily basis, but keeping yourself in a healthy state of mind is downright difficult. Counseling in Katy, TX can help guide you toward smart choices to become the healthiest version of yourself. Who can’t use a “pick-me up” every so often? Let’s look at a few ways to quickly and efficiently boost your confidence. These tips can inject some positivity into your daily grind, and give you a few bonus points to carry with you throughout your day.

  • Write a list of your accomplishments

Take a moment to yourself to write down a list of your accomplishments. Actually write them down (or type them out). Feel free to add whatever you consider to be a win for yourself. Not all of your achievements have to be huge, like a promotion at work, or buying a new car. Sometimes, my accomplishment for the day is simply getting out of bed and taking a shower. Write down anything you look at as a triumph.

Seeing your accomplishments written out makes them visible. You did this. Recognize the hard work that went into crossing those rivers, and climbing those mountains. You have gotten yourself to where you are today. YOU did that. You should be proud of yourself.

  • Write down three things your family/friends think are good about you

Sometimes it can be difficult to promote yourself with confidence. It feels uncomfortable to praise the positive things about yourself. When that happens, shift gears and think about what your friends or family would say about you if asked.

Many years ago, I sat down to write my first resume in an attempt to get a job while in high school. I stared at the computer screen, unsure what to do. I opted to use a template and went through the motions of filling in personal information about me, but when it got to the part for “experience,” I was lost. I was seventeen and in high school, I had no experience. My mom offered to help and sat down at the computer. She asked me what I felt like I did to show some responsibility. I mentioned that I did chores to earn an allowance every week. She smiled and typed something along the lines of “completing tasks in a timely manner,” and “able to budget money effectively.” She turned to me and explained that just because I think something is not especially professional, or sounds silly, doesn’t mean it’s incorrect or ineffective. I’ve thought about that conversation with my mom every time I’ve ever updated my resume since then. You might not think it's cool that you can fit nine big marshmallows in your mouth at one time, but I bet your six year old cousin would think that was the coolest thing he’d seen all day.

Use the positives that your family and friends see in you to boost your confidence.

  • Do something you are good at

Doing something you are good at is a great way to expediently boost your confidence. It doesn’t have to be something massive. Pick something, anything, and do that! Flexing your ability to excel at something creates a positive energy. Build up that positive energy just before walking into a party where you don’t know many people, or before you have a job interview. Studies have shown that pumping positivity can make a difference in the way a person handles stressful situations.

Use these tips when you need a quick “pick-me up” to give yourself the extra boost of confidence. If you extend these practices to more than when you just need that extra bump of confidence, it will be easier to recall these skills when you need them. Counseling in Katy, TX will help you navigate your way to the healthiest version of yourself. You deserve the healthiest version of yourself. Contact me to schedule a 15 minute consultation.
