Trauma is Tough!

Trauma is overwhelming because it doesn’t remain in the past, it follows you today. It influences thinking, feeling, relationships and even your physical being.

Understanding Trauma:

Capital ‘T’ vs. Lowercase ‘t’ Trauma

Capital 'T' Trauma

People often think of this as major incidents that are objectively “bad.” Such as sexual assault, natural disasters, car accidents, or military experiences. These events can result in diagnoses like PTSD and generally have a detrimental effect on mental health.

Lowercase 't' Trauma

These are stressful instances that may not be a threat to life but can cause significant psychological distress. Examples: parenting, societal messages, bullying, or major life changes. Despite appearing to be “less intense,” they can build up over time and cause serious mental health issues.

Both types of trauma are real and can interfere with everyday life.
